As you would expect, fitness levels naturally improve over time as a person becomes more accustomed to exercise. Generally, the fitter you are, the less time it would take for your body to recover from a workout. Since fitter people tend to recover faster from an exercise session, they can get away with working out more frequently, i.e., 4, 5, or even six days a week.
Speed of Recovery (Post Exercise)
Sometimes how frequently you can exercise can directly be dependent on the speed of your recovery. While fitness levels certainly play a part in how fast one can recover, diet and sleep equally play a role. If a person doesn’t prioritize eating a healthy diet and making sure they get enough rest, this will significantly slow down the speed of recovery.
Exercise Intensity and Duration
Other factors that significantly impact how frequently a person should work out are the intensity of the exercise and the total time spent exercising (duration.) Intense activities like running, weightlifting, sprinting require more recovery time than low-intensity exercises such as walking. Walking for 20 minutes each day doesn’t require nearly as much recovery time as walking for 3 hours each day!
