What’s the best way to Meditate?

So while there is no universal best method for meditation, there are general practices and strategies that work for most people. Examples include:

  1. Deep breathing – This is a particular type of breathing technique where a person breathes from their diaphragm instead of living from their chest. Breathing from your diaphragm activates the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing heart rate and calming the nervous system.
  2. Progressive muscle relaxation – This relaxation technique has a person briefly tense their muscles and then release the tension. The idea is that repeating this motion of tensing and releasing removes tension in the muscles, allowing them to relax.
  3. Slow rhythmic breathing – Just like deep breathing, slow rhythmic breathing is a common practice in mediation. This slow breathing relaxes the body and slows a person’s heart rate.

So when it comes down to picking the best method to meditate, it does depend on what personally works for an individual. While there are thousands of relaxation methods, techniques, and general practices, it all boils down to what techniques a person feels best suits them.
